東京都生まれ。
早稲田大学理工学部建築学科、理工学研究科建設工学科修士課程修了。
ベルギー・ルーベン・カトリック大学（KU Leuven）で建築と都市の保存修復コースで修士号取得。京都大学大学院人間・環境学研究科博士後期課程を経て、英国・エディンバラ大学で博士号（社会人類学）取得。エディンバラ大学、国立民族学博物館、英国・オープンユニヴァーシティなどでポストドクフェローとして勤務した後、東京大学東洋文化研究所准教授を経て、現職。
日本語、英語、カンナダ語、フランス語を研究・教育で使っています。改修した町家で夫と猫2匹と生活しています。現在、木綿の糸紡ぎとバレエを習っています。

Born in Tokyo. Graduated from Waseda University's Faculty of Science and Engineering, Department of Architecture, and completed a master's program in the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering.
Earned a Master's degree in Architecture and Urban Conservation from KU Leuven, Belgium. Conducted doctoral studies at Kyoto University's Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies, then earned a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh, UK.
Worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Edinburgh, the National Museum of Ethnology, and the Open University, UK, before serving as Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo's Institute for Oriental Culture, leading to the current position.
I use Japanese, English, Kannada, and French for research and teaching. I live with my husband and two cats in a renovated machiya townhouse. Currently learning cotton spinning and ballet.
